Beaches-East York M.P. Nathaniel Erskine-Smith is hosting two free screenings of “The Woman Who Loves Giraffes” at the Fox Theatre.

Our Q&A discussion will feature advocate and educator Farrah Khan, filmmaker Alison Reid, and Dr. Anne Innis-Dagg, The Woman Who Loves Giraffes.

About The Woman Who Loves Giraffes:
“Dr. Anne Innis Dagg re-traces the steps of her groundbreaking 1956 journey to South Africa to study giraffes in the wild – and discovers a startling contrast between the world of giraffes she once knew and the one it has become. Weaving through the past and present, her harrowing journey gives us an intimate look into the factors that destroyed her career and the forces that brought her back.”

About Alison Reid:
“Award-winning Director ALISON REID began her career in film as a stunt performer, stunt coordinator and second unit director. After accumulating over 300 credits, she formed Free Spirit Films with a view to producing projects diverse in genre but similar in their exploration of the human spirit. She made her directorial debut with short film, SUCCUBUS, which she also co-wrote and produced. With the support of Telefilm Canada, Reid followed up with her feature length comedy, THE BABY FORMULA, which had a worldwide, award-winning film festival run and sold internationally.

Her television directing credits include SAVING HOPE, HEARTLAND and MURDOCH MYSTERIES (forthcoming), and producing credits include GIRAFFES: THE FORGOTTEN GIANTS, an episode of CBC’s Nature of Things. Reid is a director alumna of the Women in the Director’s Chair Program and a producer alumna of the Canadian Film Centre. In 2007 she received a Crystal Award, presented by the Directors Guild of Canada for Best Emerging Director. She is currently directing and producing her first feature documentary, SMITTEN BY GIRAFFES: THE ANNE INNIS DAGG ADVENTURE.”
