Rose in the House on November 21st to recognize the incredible contributions of The Neighbourhood Group (TNG) to our riding and our city. Last week, I also had the opportunity to deliver Meals on Wheels alongside TNG volunteers in our community.
Recently, our government granted over $1 million in funding over 29 months to TNG to support its Youth Works program. Since 2011 this program has helped youth, through skills training and work experience, to become gainfully employed and financially independent in the long term.
In the last year, TNG’s staff and its 1300 dedicated volunteers have helped 31,000 clients across Toronto through 47 unique programs.
These include personal support home care for over 2,000 people, helping almost 7,000 vulnerable people obtain lost or stolen ID, delivering over 28,000 meals, serving an additional 6,000 meals, and helping 759 people find work and 224 return to school.
The organization has also sponsored and supported three Syrian refugee families.
