Mr. Clement and the Conservatives introduced a motion asking that “the House reject the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which promotes the demonization and delegitimization of the State of Israel, and call upon the government to condemn any and all attempts…to promote the BDS movement.”
I recently posted on Facebook to request feedback and constituent’s views on this difficult motion. Thank you to everyone for participating.
In the future, I plan to continue to engage with constituents on motions and bills before the House, and I plan to post my thoughts, and ultimately my explanation, for how I decide.
With respect to this motion in particular, I could not support it given its content and purpose. As I did not feel comfortable missing the vote purposefully, I was faced with voting against the motion or abstaining on principle. I opted to abstain, and I explain that decision here:
